Weird NJ The Book – Pages 196 & 197

Many years ago a young boy was killed on this spot by a car speeding along the curves of Talamini road. Since that day, you can hear a disembodied voice yelling “SLOW DOWN”. You need to be going west bound at midnight and doing 55 MPH (in a 25MPH zone). The voice is only heard on the drivers side of the car when you have the window down.

No, I’ve never tried it.

In a shocking twist unforseen by the knitting world, a crime against fashion was perpetrated this weekend by superstar Amy R. Singer. She was photographed during an appearance at Loop wearing this... erm... ensemble.

Clearly, it started to affect Amy's behavior after a few moments.

Here, it would appear it had taken over her mind enough to convince her that she could fly.

No one seemed to know what could have possessed such a normally stylish, lovely woman to appear in public wearing such hideousness. However, our sources indicate that the blame lies squarely with her stylist for the appearance, one known only as "trillian42", seen here forcing a reluctant Amy into the creation.

Later sightings of Ms. Singer indicate that she was no longer wearing the offending item, so we can only hope that this was a bout of temporary insanity brought on by ridiculous humidity and an invading horde of Knittyboarders.

Like a big piece of pie, that's amore!

So here we are. The Fug participated in the 7th St S 'n B (again, that's just Chloe and me). Notice the look of dismay. "Mama... why?"

And then it was time to finally take The Fug out to see the sights of Phoenix. I'm not sure why I'm making that face. All I know is that I'm making it. There's JungleJim in the backseat, touching the Fug on the sly.

Truthfully, there's only one sight worth seeing, and here it is:

I love this place. I hope they let me come back.
Actually, we could have taken The Fug on a hike up Camelback Mountain, but alas, no.

Finally, here I am praying to St. Fug, begging to be preserved from such horror forevermore.

(Truthfully, some of this yarn is SO soft and snuggly. It's just a shame that .... that.... well, it's just a shame.)

Quick FUG Update!

This afternoon and tomorrow my sweet seester and I will be taking The FUG on a tour of Phoenix, thereby completing its journey to this particular bit of barren desert! Pictures of that, and of its debut at the 7th St. S n' B (which consists of my daughter and me) will be posted on Saturday before its departure to the next lucky fool. I mean knitter!

As I type, there is a lovely gentleman here fixing the carpet. You know how the carpet ends and the tile begins and there's usually a protective strip holding down the carpet? Not so here, and consequently my carpet's been trashed in a few places. I'm dying to take The Fug out of the box to photograph her in all her glory, but I'm not sure about such performance art in front of Mr. Carpet. I carefully reached my hand into the bag and recoiled in horror and I felt something... crunchy.... something not quite.... right.....

Providence SnB Fug

I decided to take the Fug on a trip to my SnB in Providence. Right now, that's only lindydiva and me, but it was an opportunity to show off the hideousness in public. Here is are my modification. Isn't this the most gorgeous, pink-with-orange-strand-in-the-middle yarn ever? And it gloriously clashes with every other color.

Unadulterated Fug

I have been fugged! Here is the fug as I received it, before any alterations. See that nipply action going on in the back? And the strange red and black portion on the side? It's bad, I tell you!

Now that my left hand no longer hurts, I can do my worst. Inspired by the fug, I went yarn shopping, and when I saw just the perfect skein, I knew: my worst is going to be bad indeed!

So I beat the computer gremlins, and here are the long awaited fug photos.

Since there's nothing exciting in the town I live in, so I took the fug to visit my brother in Minneapolis/St. Paul. He took the fug and I to the Mall of America.

First, I tried to find shoes that would match the fug.
They're glittery gold wedge heels. Loud and perfect for the fug. :D
Then we went to Leggo Land. I tried to feed the fug to a dinosaur.
He didn't want it.
So then I went and found Harry Potter.
Am I invisible? Am I?
Last, we went to see the chapel of Love. Because you can't go to the MOA without seeing where people get married. In a mall.

So there you are. The Fug's trip to the MOA.

I Left My Fug in San Francisco....

The Fug spent an uneventful week sitting on my coffee table but yesterday, we left the suburbs and made a special trip to the City by the Bay, San Francisco.

The Fug in front of City Hall. Earlier in the day, there were thousands of people here for a Protest Rally, but the Fug only knows peace. City Hall is one of the City landmarks destroyed in the great 1906 Earthquake.

The Fug accompanied me to the Orpheum theater to see the "Light in the Piazza". We enjoyed the show and left hungry for Italian food.

After the show, we took a detour to view the famous San Francisco fog rolling in over the Golden Gate Bridge.

After siteseeing, I let the Fug drive home via North Beach, home of San Francisco's Little Italy and birthplace of the Bohemian/Beatnik movement.

Today the Fug is packing up to move on to her next destination. Stay tuned to see where she will pop up next on her world adventure!

Who knew the Fug would garner such a following? Vertias and Blue Canary have surrendered to the Fug's irrestistable charms and joined up!

I think I might have to come up with a better system of adding new playaz, because I would never want to deny anyone the opportunity to participate in such Wacky Fuggery.

This is why I'll never be in Management. I have vision, but I'm indecisive. Perhaps I could put "Masterminded Fuggablog" on my resume. When I apply to be a ice cream truck driver.

UPDATE

Thanks to the input of Fuggabloggers Turtlegirl76 and Trillian42, we've come up with a new and better way to plot the Fug's Global Domination Tour.

The original itinerary is tossed out.

As people join our Fuggapalooza, their names will be added to the sidebar and placed in a hat. I think the Open-Enrollment policy is part of the fun of the Fuggablog, don't you?

It's on it's way to person #2 (Zephrbabe) now, so from here on, Beeb draws a name out of the hat, and I will contact the Fug's Current Companion with address information about who it goes to next. That way it stays random, and I can make sure the next person in line is available and not out of town for 2 months. Of course, I probably should have checked with Zephrbabe first, but hopefully it won't be an issue going forward.

In short, the Fug's position will be a closely-guarded secret until the next person posts on the blog a picture of the fug as it is upon arrival at their door.

Hope this doesn't mess anybody up too much - I think it will be more fun this way.

The end destination will remain Domestic Overlord.

Does anybody know of a way to track the Fug on a map that we could post here?

1. The Fuggablog is a Random Act of Zaniness intended to encourage creative Fuggery, to rid our homes of unwanted Fug, and to amuse us crazy Fuggers.

2. We will document the Fug's travels right here.

3. The Fug will be started by Penny Karma, and passed to the next Fugger in line. As people join our Fuggapalooza, their names will be added to the sidebar and placed in a hat. When it's time for the Fug to move on, Beeb will draw a name out of the hat, and I will contact the Fug's Current Companion with address information about who it goes to next. That way it stays random, and I can make sure the next person in line is available and not out of town for 2 months.

4. The challenge will end when the FO is returned to Domestic Overlord and she has worked with it for 7 days.

5. On receipt of the Fug you will photograph the piece as it arrives and post it to the Fuggablog blog where the progress of the Fug will be updated. The knittyboard will also be updated simultaneously so that everyone can see what complete Fuggin goofballs/creative geniuses we are.

6. Each recipient can keep the Fug for up to one week (7 days) by which time it must be posted on to the next recipient. Jeez, why would ya want to hang onto it??

7. During your one week custody of the Fug you may invite as many people locally as you like to take part in the project - their contributions must be within your one week day allocation. You can do whatever you like to the Fug - add a sleeve, pocket, soft toy, use whatever size needles you like, increase, decrease, short rows, create a 2 dimensional or a three dimensional addition, add buttons, bows, ribbons, shiny things, and of course, the use of FunFur is encouraged.

8. During the time that the Fug resides with you, you must:

A) add at least one row of Fugly to the Fug. Embellish, graft on to, attach, change colour, pattern, yarn or in any other way increase the Fugliness and/or dubious functionality of the Fug, however you want.

B) after your addition, photograph yourself holding, wearing, or hiding behind the Fug in a public place. Get that? You're submitting a total of at least two photos. Post more if ya want, we don't care. Post at least one of the original Fug as it arrived at your door, and one of you in public sportin' the Fug after you've added your own specialkinda Fug to it.

Then you are free to rid yourself of the Fug.

9. You must NOT frog, remove or alter any work done to date of receipt unless there are specific instructions to do so, which you are entitled to ignore.

10. Please make sure that the Fug is passed on to the next person in a state that is easily picked up - ie stitches placed on a holder, pattern instructions included (which you may choose to ignore) and the Fug securely packaged. The current keeper of the Fug should post a message in this thread about what s/he did to Further Fuggify the Fug.

11. By agreeing to participate you agree to contribute freely your time, ideas, yarn, embellishments and postage to the next person. By agreeing to take part you are putting your work and ideas into the public domain (not that the public domain would want any of it), and as such should be prepared to allow your work to be altered and added to by others. Basically, kids, if you have your feelings hurt easily, then get the Fug out. You're part of a collaborative effort. It's not all about YOU. Unless you're me.

12. The Finished Fug's fate has yet to be determined. Suggestions welcomed.

Thinking of fug

PK and I have done a little chatting about the fug-a-long and yes, it would be rather like the knit-a-blog but fugly.

Also I mentioned trying to get the finished product into the La Jolla Museum of Modern Art. They have baby doll heads strung up in the garden outside, I think they might like our fug.

YO! Can't Stop the Fug Rush!

So, I was thinkin'.

(Did somebody just say "UH-OH"?)

WHAT IF - we held a Fug-a-long (is that what they're called?). It would work like this. If you have a UFFO (2nd F is, of course, for FUG) or some remnants of Fug Yarn that you'd like to purge from your stash, then I'm talkin' to YOU.

It would begin with a single Fug Item. And then, when the Fug arrives at your door, you would affix some of your own homegrown Fug onto it, however you want. Stitch a scarf to a purse, whatever. Or just embellish it with Patons Pebbles or something. Obviously, we've blown straight past the limits of Good Taste, so we're now limited only by our collective imagination. I know I'm dealin with some incredibly creative people.

And what would we do with the Final Fug? I haven't thought that far ahead. Suggestions?

I had a total blast with this guys. I say we make it a recurring thing. In fact next time we'll make it three steals before retirement so it can be even more vicious- I mean fun. Yeah, fun.

Ok, so, here's where things stand right now.

1) PennyKarma took the Bear Hug Floor-Length Cardigan.

2) Bezzie took the Fourteen Feet of Fiesta Fug.

3) Lucinda took the Porta-Poopy Tote, along with the Remnants of Domestic Overlord's Medical Career. Chuckle.

4) Cooknknit swiped the Porta-Poopy Tote. So Lucinda went for the Taunting Turquoise Terror.

5) Cpurl swiped the Fourteen Feet of Fug-o de Mayo. Bezzie then went for the Sweater that Swallowed the Dog.

6) dkswife swiped the Divine Cardigan, so Penny Karma took the Mup-purse.

7) Turtlegirl swiped the Turquoise Terror from Lucinda, who then swiped the Divine Bearskin Cardigan. After the second swiping, the Sweater that Ate Cooknknit has now (sob!) been retired from the Fug-Off. Dkswife chose, as replacement for the Big Ol' Sweater, The Coveted Muppet Wrap. Ok, maybe Coveted is too strong a word.

8)DomesticOverlord swiped the "Bartender, May I Have some Fun Fur with my Tequila" Scarf from Cpurl, thereby rendering it unswipable and rendering Cpurl eligible for another pick. For reasons beyond our understanding, she went with the "Lion Brand Lesson in Dye Lots" Sweater.

Each participant will have up to 48 hours to make their selection in the form of a comment TO THE POST THAT HAS ALL THE ENTRIES at which point it will be the next person's turn. I will stay on top of this as much as possible and PM you on the knittyboard you when your number comes up (I, like a moron, lost the email addies EDIT: I found them!). If you miss your 48 hour window to choose an item you will not be allowed to steal (sorry, there's got to be a punishment). When it is your turn you may choose a new item or steal someone else's item. Each item may only be stolen twice and then it is retired and may no longer be stolen. I say: If you think the anti-fur people are harsh just wait until you meet the the anti-muppet pelt activists. I hear they blew up some Michael's store based off of a RUMOR that they were having a fun fur sale.

2) Grover's Cousin Purse by Bezzie:

Bezzie says: "I give you my humble submission. Back before I could purl, and when I could obviously manipulate my squares into something a bit different than just a coaster or a dishcloth, I made this fugly purse. I think it's a combo of some type of fun fur and some kind of acrylic. I can't even remember. It's got a satin ribbon handle and a polarfleece lining and droops terribly when you try to carry anything in it. Yipes. Why do I feel the need to give this much detail about my fug??"

I say: You know, the more I look at it the more it seems to be the cousin of PK's shawl...

Penny sez: Yup. Pretty sure this purse and my shawl were mercifully separated at cast-on.

3) Lion Dye-Lot Disaster Sweater by Lucinda:

Lucinda says: "Here is my item, a wonderful and delightful sweater. While I technically did not handknit it (I did it on an Ultimate Sweater Machine) it's still pretty darned fugly. Two different dyelots of the same Lion Brand 100% acrylic yarn means that most of the front and sleeves are one shade and the back and the part of one sleeve are another. The two sleeves were knit at a different gauge, so one is shorter than another.

Oh the humanity.

Hopefully someone else will enjoy this."

I say: Disaster can often be spelled L-i-o-n B-r-a-n-d.

Penny sez: Sure. Blame it on the Sweater Machine.

4) The Sweater That Ate Poor CooknKnit by CooknKnit:

CooknKnit says: "I'm not quite sure what we're doing here, but I like jumping on the bandwagon and being like all the cool kids. May I present to you my fug. Pattern is a lacy cardigan made completely of Patons Divine. I've never worn it other than for that picture. Yep, fug."

I say: It looks like she's been eaten by a bear. Not the worst of the fug but definitely fug.

Penny sez: If you laid it in front of a fireplace and drank a couple rounds of Hot Toddys, I'm sure it would look a whole lot more inviting.

5) Turquoise Terror Scarf by Cpurl:

Cpurl says: "I won this yarn as a free raffle prize during the lunch break at a Nicky Epstein class sponsored by a LYS. Note: Ms. Epstein had nothing to do with this yarn. It has been sitting on my dresser drawer taunting me until this FUG off came along and brought new meaning to its life."

6) Scarf Not Even a Dog Could Love by dkswife:

dkswife says: "Attached is my FUG. I tried to sweeten it up a little by wrapping the scarf around my pup pup. Pup pup not included in the swap! ;-)

Need a little detail on the FUG: 100% Cheapo Acrylic in a obnoxious
red/yellow varigant. I truly believe this yarn is much more worse than Red Heart! No crapola! It curls really bad at the edges, and really just looks like, well you know what. Oh, I added some crappy fringe at the ends of it too. There is a story behind this FUG. I knitted this while my mom was going through her colon cancer ordeal last year. I say: So, I was cleaning under the bed this morning because I broke the bed with my huge butt and am now afraid that it could collapse at any moment and I found this bag. It's a buttonhole bag in colors that I hate. I made this for someone I no longer speak to, perhaps their taste in colors had something to do with it, I can't remember it's been like years now. Anyway, the point is I have this ugly bag and the fug swap is about to begin so now maybe you can have an ugly bag, wouldn't that be exciting? Oh, and there's fabric for the lining if you want it (shown in the picture at right being barfed up by the bag). It has pockets already sewed onto it because it's a ripped up scrub top from back when I had a medical career. Yeah, I had a medical carrer, keep your comments to yourself (well, unless you come up with something really funny, then by all means say it).

My mom wants the MuppetFug Shawl.

To wear at WORK. Her office is cold, she says.

I'm trying like hell to talk her out of it. Now, granted, she lives 1000 miles away, so the likelihood that I'd ever have to actually be seen out in public with her as she's wearing (cringe!) this nasty thang are slim to none, but just the thought of her hanging out in the employee lunchroom with catty comments swarming about her completely oblivious head... Oh, God... just envisioning it is painful.
